Al-Qaida admits its desperation in Zawahiri letter to Zarqawi.

The letter by Al-Qaida’s second in command, Ayman al Zawahiri, to his commander Abu Musab al Zarqawi in Iraq, lays to rest the notion that, ”the war in Iraq is not crucial to the overall ‘War on Islamist Extremism’ ”. Zawahiri spells out very clearly in four stages, the plan Al-Qaida wishes to implement in Iraq, and for the region. Its also a letter of desperation, noting that they have failed to not only win the ‘hearts and minds of the Iraqi people, but also the Afghans as well.

The letter’s full text is up on the Web site of the Director of National Intelligence at www.dni.gov.
